Which DSC token driver do I need? ePass2003, HYP2003 and ProxKey — and when a token isn't detected

Quick answer
A DSC token needs its own driver before any signer works. Read the token's label: FEITIAN ePass2003 uses 'ePass2003India-Setup.exe' from e-Mudhra's repository; HyperPKI HYP2003 uses the India package on Hypersecu's India Support page; Watchdata ProxKey usually installs from the token's own 'WD ProxKey' drive. When in doubt, use the driver from the Certifying Authority that issued your DSC.
Two layers, two installs
Signing on the GST or income tax portal needs two separate pieces of software:
- the token driver (middleware), which lets Windows read the certificate inside the USB token; and
- the portal's signer — emSigner for GST, emBridge for income tax — which lets the website use that certificate.
If the driver is wrong or missing, no signer will see your certificate. Most "DSC not detected" problems start here.
Step 1: Identify your token
Look at the printing on the token and the Certifying Authority's dispatch details. The three tokens most often sold in India:
- FEITIAN ePass2003 (also ePass2003 Auto);
- HyperPKI HYP2003 (Hypersecu), HS Series in India;
- Watchdata ProxKey.
Others exist — (n)Code's driver page also lists mToken and InnaIT, and e-Mudhra's lists Trust Key and Precision InnaIT. If you can't tell, ask the Certifying Authority (CA) that issued your DSC. CAs are licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authorities, which publishes the list.
ePass2003: the Feitian middleware
FEITIAN, the maker, does not publish a Windows driver download. e-Mudhra, a CCA-licensed CA, hosts it on its Repository under Token Drivers:
- Unplug the token.
- Download ePass2003India-Setup.exe (Feitian Middleware for ePass2003). Don't pick the file marked "New" — that is HyperPKI middleware for the HYP2003.
- Right-click → Run as administrator, finish setup, restart, then plug in the token.
The e-Mudhra build is old (around 2016–17) and doesn't state Windows 10/11 support, so if your own CA offers a newer driver, use that. Full steps are in our GST token guide.
HYP2003: the India package from Hypersecu
Hypersecu's India Support page hosts drivers it says are for products sold in India (version 251219 when we checked). Don't use the middleware on its global Downloads page for Indian tokens. According to Hypersecu's Windows user guide:
- Run HyperPKI HYP2003 Setup, choose language, click Next and pick the folder.
- Choose the CSP option — the private "EnterSafe HYP2003 CSP v2.0" or Microsoft CSP — then Install and Finish.
- Insert the token, open HyperPKI Token Manager, click Login and enter the PIN.
- The default user PIN in the guide is 12345678 — change it straight away.
The same installer also manages ePass2003Auto-model tokens that show up as HYP2003. The guide lists Windows versions up to Windows 10; Windows 11 is not mentioned.
ProxKey: install from the token
ProxKey normally installs its own tool. When you plug it in, Windows shows a CD-ROM drive called WD ProxKey. When autorun asks, click Install for ProxKey Token Tool. If autorun is blocked, open This PC → WD ProxKey and run Setup yourself. Click Yes when Windows asks to install the CCA India and licensed-CA root certificates, then Finish.
If you need the driver as a download, (n)Code Solutions, a CCA-licensed CA, lists separate packages labelled FIPS-2 and FIPS-3. Pick the one that matches your token. The CCA asked CAs to stop issuing DSCs on FIPS 140-2 tokens by 21 September 2026, so a token issued after that date should need the FIPS-3 package (see our FIPS 140-3 guide). The FIPS-3 package is a .rar file, so you need an extractor such as 7-Zip.
Token still not detected?
- Try another USB port and check the token's light comes on.
- Make sure the driver matches the token — the Feitian package for ePass2003, the HyperPKI package for HYP2003.
- Reinstall the driver as administrator and restart.
- Open the token's own tool (ePass token tool, HyperPKI Token Manager or ProxKey Token Tool) and log in. If the certificate shows there, the driver is fine and the problem is the signer.
- For GST, run emSigner as administrator; for income tax, start emBridge before plugging in the token, as the department advises.
- Check the certificate's Validity Period in the token tool — an expired DSC can't be used.
Locked token or forgotten PIN
Only HYP2003 has a published self-service unlock. Hypersecu's guide describes the Remote Unlock Client (driver 180929 or later): it generates a challenge code, and the response code is e-mailed from tokenunblock@charteredinfo.com to the e-mail address in your DSC. To see that address, open the certificate in Windows, go to the Details tab and look at Subject Alternative Name. For other HYP2003 problems, the Token Manager's Analysis Tool → Analysis → Repair fixes ActiveX, Java plug-in, DLL and CSP issues.
For ePass2003 and ProxKey we found no unlock procedure published by the makers. Contact the CA that issued your DSC — don't guess the PIN repeatedly.

HYP2003: Hypersecu का India पैकेज
Hypersecu का India Support पेज ऐसे ड्राइवर देता है जिन्हें वह भारत में बिके प्रोडक्ट के लिए बताता है (हमारी जाँच के समय वर्ज़न 251219)। भारतीय टोकन के लिए उसके ग्लोबल Downloads पेज का middleware इस्तेमाल न करें। Hypersecu की Windows यूज़र गाइड के अनुसार:
- HyperPKI HYP2003 Setup चलाएँ, भाषा चुनें, Next पर क्लिक करें और फ़ोल्डर चुनें।
- CSP विकल्प चुनें — private "EnterSafe HYP2003 CSP v2.0" या Microsoft CSP — फिर Install और Finish करें।
- टोकन लगाएँ, HyperPKI Token Manager खोलें, Login पर क्लिक करके PIN डालें।

ProxKey: टोकन से ही इंस्टॉल करें

ड्राइवर डाउनलोड के रूप में चाहिए, तो CCA से लाइसेंस प्राप्त CA (n)Code Solutions FIPS-2 और FIPS-3 नाम के अलग पैकेज देती है। अपने टोकन से मेल खाता पैकेज चुनें। CCA ने CAs से 21 सितंबर 2026 तक FIPS 140-2 टोकन पर DSC जारी करना बंद करने को कहा था, इसलिए उस तारीख के बाद जारी टोकन के लिए आमतौर पर FIPS-3 पैकेज की ज़रूरत होगी (हमारी FIPS 140-3 गाइड देखें)। FIPS-3 पैकेज .rar फ़ाइल है, इसलिए 7-Zip जैसा extractor चाहिए।

टोकन लॉक हो गया या PIN भूल गए
सिर्फ़ HYP2003 के लिए ख़ुद अनलॉक करने का तरीका प्रकाशित है। Hypersecu की गाइड Remote Unlock Client (ड्राइवर 180929 या नया) बताती है: यह एक challenge code बनाता है, और response code tokenunblock@charteredinfo.com से आपके DSC में दर्ज ई-मेल पर आता है। वह ई-मेल देखने के लिए Windows में सर्टिफ़िकेट खोलें, Details टैब में Subject Alternative Name देखें। HYP2003 की दूसरी समस्याओं के लिए Token Manager का Analysis Tool → Analysis → Repair ActiveX, Java plug-in, DLL और CSP की गड़बड़ियाँ ठीक करता है।
