Quick answer
The Wi-Fi option vanishes when Windows has no enabled, working wireless adapter. Microsoft's steps: run the network troubleshooter in Get Help, turn off Airplane mode and any physical Wi-Fi switch, then open Device Manager → Network adapters and choose Enable device. If the adapter is missing or faulty, get its driver through Windows Update, your laptop maker or, for supported Intel cards, Intel's Wi-Fi driver, then try Network reset.
Why the Wi-Fi option disappears
Microsoft's Wi-Fi guide treats this as an adapter problem: Wi-Fi is switched off, the adapter is disabled, or Windows has no working driver for it. Work down the list and check the taskbar after each step.
Bring it back, step by step
- Run the troubleshooter. Open the Get Help app and run the automated Network and Internet troubleshooter.
- Check Airplane mode. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Airplane mode and make sure it's off.
- Check the physical switch. Microsoft notes some laptops have a physical Wi-Fi switch; make sure it's on.
- Enable the adapter. Open Device Manager and expand Network adapters. Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter and select Enable device. Note the adapter's name while you're here (for example "Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX211").
- Get the right driver. Microsoft's order is: run Windows Update to check for the latest driver, or visit the PC manufacturer's website for the latest network adapter driver. With no internet, download it on another PC and copy it over on a USB flash drive.
- Reinstall the driver. Keep a driver file ready first. In Device Manager → Network adapters, right-click the adapter, select Uninstall device, tick Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then Start → Power → Restart. If Windows doesn't reinstall a driver on its own, install the one you saved.
- Reset the network. Open Settings, go to Network & internet → Advanced network settings → Network reset, select Reset now, then Yes. Microsoft says this removes all installed network adapters and their settings; after the restart they're reinstalled with default settings. You may need to reinstall and set up other networking software such as a VPN client afterwards, and known networks may be set to a public network profile, which makes the PC undiscoverable to other devices.
When Intel's driver is the right one
If Device Manager names an Intel adapter, Intel publishes a combined Windows 10 and 11 driver. On 30 October 2026 the package was version 24.80.0 (dated 10/20/2026), file WiFi-24.80.0-Driver64-Win10-Win11.exe, for 64-bit Windows only. It supports Wi-Fi 7 BE213, BE211, BE202, BE201 and BE200; Wi-Fi 6E AX411, AX211 and AX210; Wi-Fi 6 AX231, AX203, AX201 and AX101; and Wireless-AC 9560, 9461, 9462 and 9260. Intel says the AX200, 7265 (Rev. D), 3168, 3165, 8260 and 8265 aren't in this package and links separate downloads for them. Install it by double-clicking the file. Intel adds that drivers for some adapters may be unchanged from the previous package, and you don't need to install it if your driver version is already the same. Realtek, MediaTek and Qualcomm adapters need their driver from your laptop maker. And skip "driver updater" sites: they aren't Intel or your PC maker.
If the adapter doesn't appear at all
When Device Manager shows no Wi-Fi adapter, Intel's own checklist (written for its Wireless-AC 9560 and 8265 cards) is:
- Enable the wireless adapter in the BIOS.
- Set the BIOS settings to defaults.
- Install the wireless driver.
- Run Windows Update.
- Reset the network in Windows.
- Reinstall the operating system.
- Contact the system manufacturer to check the hardware.
If the BIOS itself can't see the card, it's a hardware matter for your laptop maker's service centre.
