Our verdict
If an app says the WebView2 Runtime is missing, or opens to a blank white window, install the Evergreen Runtime from Microsoft. It's included in Windows 11 and already present on most Windows 10 PCs, but it can be missing after clean installs or on locked-down PCs. Use the small Evergreen Bootstrapper when online, or the Standalone Installer (x64, x86 or ARM64) for offline PCs. Uninstalling it can break apps.

FAQ
Can I uninstall Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime?
It's not recommended. Apps from Microsoft and other companies depend on it, and Microsoft includes the Evergreen Runtime as part of Windows 11.
Is WebView2 the same as the Edge browser?
No. It uses the same engine, but it's a separate runtime that apps embed. Microsoft says production apps must use the WebView2 Runtime, not the Edge browser.
