Our verdict

The Nighthawk app (formerly the Up app, and the replacement for NETGEAR genie) sets up and manages NETGEAR Nighthawk routers. It offers remote access, speed tests, guest Wi-Fi, a traffic meter, pausing Wi-Fi for devices and one-tap firmware updates. NETGEAR Armor security and smart parental controls are offered inside the app as subscriptions. Google Play shows 5,000,000+ installs. Install it only from Google Play or the App Store and check the developer name before tapping Install. Look-alike 'router admin' apps and APK sites are common.
