Our verdict
Dev-C++ is still what many Indian colleges install for first-year C and C++ labs. Embarcadero's fork of the old Bloodshed/Orwell Dev-C++ comes with TDM-GCC 9.2 in one installer, so students can compile programs without setting up a toolchain. It is native and light on old lab PCs, but the last release (6.3) dates from January 2021 and GCC 9.2 lacks newer C++ standards support. Use it instead of Turbo C++, which is obsolete.

FAQ
Which Dev-C++ file should I download?
On the official GitHub releases page, choose the 'TDM-GCC 9.2 Setup' file if you want the compiler included. The 'No Compiler' builds are for people who already have GCC installed.
Is Dev-C++ better than Turbo C++?
Yes for modern study: Turbo C++ is a 1990s DOS compiler, while Dev-C++ uses GCC and supports standard C and C++ as taught in most syllabi today.
